following are brief descriptions.
David Aoyagi and Scott Pozzi manage the company and, together, have over 35
years of real estate experience. With broad backgrounds in the real
estate industry, David and Scott bring unique perspectives that create a
business model that compels them to seek practical courses of action--not
abstract conceptual models--that deliver better results through better
insight, faster execution, and exceptional financial returns. As a
hands-on and value driven team, Prescient’s managers truly build real wealth
from the ground up.
David Aoyagi

David
has over 15 years
of real estate development
and research experience,
focusing on quantitatively
based regional economic
and property forecasts
as well as operations and
development models and
hands-on project and
construction management. Prior to founding Prescient Venture Partners,
LLC, David established and ran two other successful real estate companies as
well as a construction-contracting firm, which worked on several high-end
commercial and public projects such as the Multnomah County Main Library
renovation in downtown Portland, Oregon. David’s companies acquired,
developed and redeveloped multi-family properties, commercial real estate,
raw land, and strip malls. He designed, built, and led his companies
to profitability -- increasing revenues by an average of 203% annually.
David holds an MBA from the
Amos Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College.
Prior to working in the real estate industry, David was the CFO of a
well-established California based company. David has served on
the Board of Directors of several companies and currently serves on the
board of a nationally recognized non-profit tennis academy for
underprivileged youths.
Scott Pozzi
Scott
has spent over 20 years in the real estate industry, managing in excess of a
billion dollars of investments for the
portfolios of pension funds
and high net worth individuals during the previous twelve years.
Prior to founding Prescient
Venture Partners, LLC, Scott was a General Manager for the Trammell Crow
Company in charge of a high-rise Central Business District (CBD)
office-building portfolio for Pac Tel Properties, High Ridge Partners, the
Ouyang Family of Hong Kong and the Lin Family of Taipei. Over a four-year
time frame, he increased the portfolio’s value by 243%, outperforming a
rapidly rising San Francisco market. As an Assistant Portfolio Manager for
JMB Institutional Realty Advisors, Scott was responsible for an industrial
portfolio in eight markets across the country on behalf of public and
private pension funds including IBM, Exxon, Inland Steel, the City of
Philadelphia and Kern County, generating returns 10% above the market
averages in the most depressed real estate market of the century.
Additionally, Scott remains an Architect in the State of California, having
practiced in the San Francisco Bay Area for nine years. He was a
Project Manager for Gensler and Associates where he collaborated on the
design and construction management of high rise office buildings, airport
terminals, corporate headquarters and retail stores. Scott received an
MBA degree from the Amos Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College and a
Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Notre Dame’s College of
Engineering. He is a full member of the Urban Land Institute.
Prescient’s Board of
Advisors plays an invaluable role in networking, analysis, and strategy for
Prescient Venture Partners, LLC. The Board meets on an annual basis
and is called upon for advice periodically.
Sam
Kinney
Sam
brings a history of innovation and success to
Prescient’s Board of Advisors. Sam is currently the CEO of
Right Hand
Manager in Bellevue, Washington.
Right
Hand Manager develops tools to help measure and manage performance across
the manufacturing process, from procurement, through operations and sales.
Prior to founding Right Hand Manager, Sam co-founded
FreeMarkets, Inc., the company that "marketized" industrial sourcing through
the use of online negotiation technology, beginning with real-time online
purchasing auctions. In his tenure with FreeMarkets, he participated in
technology development, strategy, marketing, customer service, and helped to
lead its record-setting IPO in 1999.
Sam is a frequent
expert lecturer at industry conferences, government hearings, and academic
gatherings. He is co-inventor of numerous patented and patent-pending
technologies at FreeMarkets. Prior to FreeMarkets, he served as a budget
director for a manufacturing firm, and twice as a management consultant,
with McKinsey & Company and Booz-Allen & Hamilton. He holds an MBA with
highest distinction from the Amos Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth
College.
Jim Kean
Jim
is the Managing Director of
Bridgespan Capital
LLC a private real estate finance company located in Portland, OR. He also
serves as Managing Member of Closing time, LLC a private lending group
located in Portland, OR. He is also currently working as an advisor to
venture capital funds, early stage technology companies, and entrepreneurs.
Jim was President and Co-Founder of
Sapient Health Network (SHN). While with SHN, Jim pioneered the concept of
online consumer health communities, building some of the largest and most
loyal groups on the Web today. The company’s service was named one of the
“Seven Best Websites of 1998” by Business Week. In 1999, SHN was purchased
by WebMD for $185 million. After the sale, he served as EVP of WebMD’s
Consumer Division where he played a key role in developing the consumer
strategy for the company. Jim was also instrumental in developing the WebMD
network strategy with such portals as Lycos, MSN, and Excite@Home.
After WebMD, Jim served as Entrepreneur in Residence with Alloy
Ventures of Palo Alto. While with Alloy, he participated in the investment
process of one of Silicon Valley’s oldest venture firms. As well, a key
responsibility was to parachute in as a senior executive to assist portfolio
companies.
An avid outdoorsman, in 1999 he hiked
the Pacific Crest Trail from Mexico to Canada. He graduated in 1984 from
Lewis & Clark College in Portland, OR. In 1991 he received his MBA from
the Amos Tuck
School of Business at Dartmouth College.
Mr. Steve Callan, CPA
Steve Callan is the
founder of Callan Account Services, a prominent Bend, Oregon firm. He
has been in practice for over 20 years and has a client list that includes
several of Oregon’s leading real estate investment and development
companies. He holds a Bachelor of Sciences Degree from California State
University, San Diego.
Mr.
David Burback
A 23-year veteran of the
commercial real estate services profession, Dave Burback has earned a
reputation as a results-oriented, ethical team player, respected by his
peers and clients alike. After a successful six-year sales career at IBM,
Dave earned Rookie of the Year honors for CB Commercial in 1981, for his
outstanding performance as an industrial agent in the Riverside, California
office. His successful marketing of more than 1,000,000 square feet of space
resulted in his appointment as the Sales Manager of CB’s Los Angeles office.
One year later at the age of 32, he was named Vice-President and
Resident Manager of the firm's new Jacksonville, Florida office. Burback was
responsible for leading the office to consistent top 10 performances in the
eastern division. Four years later, Dave was promoted to Senior
Vice-President in charge of the 35-broker Riverside, California office. He
successfully repositioned the office in the marketplace and restructured
personnel during the economic down turn of the early 1990's. Under Dave's
leadership, the Riverside, California office ranked in the top 10 for CB
Commercial as well.
In 1995, Dave accepted the
position of Senior Vice President/General Manager of the Colliers
International’s office in Portland. After successfully merging the existing
Colliers firm with Bullier & Bullier, he continued to strategically expand
their business in the Portland Metropolitan area. Dave left Colliers in 1999
to form Northwest Realty Advisors specializing in commercial investment
services throughout the greater Pacific Northwest.
A California native, Dave
is a graduate of the University of Southern California. He is licensed as a
broker and is a past President of NAIOP (National Association of Industrial
and Office Parks), a former member of ICSC (International Council of
Shopping Centers), and ULI (Urban Land Institute). A recognized industry
expert, he is a frequent speaker at industry conferences. Dave is a former
member of the Rotary Club and Beta Theta Pi fraternity. His fund raising and
service associations have included United Way, AYSO Soccer, and Economic
Development Partnership, the Portland Chamber of Commerce and the William
Temple House.
